The Start of the MBA

Scott started an MBA program! It's a night class at the University of Arizona, so he'll get the whole class setting every Wednesday from 4pm - 10pm (don't worry, dinner is included). Good luck Scott and good job on getting accepted and taking this opportunity!

It's 2 classes each time period (which I'm not sure how long each one is, but the whole thing is about 20 months) and he gets to start out with the fun classes of Stats and Econ...

Here's his first day of school:) I did this jokingly b/c my mom always took our picture the first day of school each year and I wasn't too big of a fan, but it was always nice to have later.

And who knew our Justin Bieber doll would be such a hit?! All the little girls wanted it.

Christmas Day! It was a little different than most: we saw our present from Santa and then went to church.

We came home and talked to Kadie! It was really late Christmas night for her in Ukraine. Then we opened presents about 2pm.

Emm loved her date basket! I know she'll put it to good use (in fact, she pry needed it a few months ago).

Then we talked to TayLOR. It was the day after Christmas in Japan, but I think he was still happy to hear from us.

Emm got an ABBA dance for the Wii. This is me celebrating cuz I totally beat her! Okay, just once or twice, which is why I had to live it up.

And one of my favorite things, ice-skating!

We started timing ourselves and racing. Dad and I raced. We got to the 3rd corner and he biffed it b/c so many people were around. I couldn't stop fast enough, so I fell too, instead of slicing him with my skates. I got a big 'ol bruise on my knee (that still hurts) b/c I fell on it and then slid on my stomach--sort of like sliding into home base. It was pretty funny. Here's our loser picture:)

Scott did so good! Especially for not really liking to be on skates.

Nate's Wedding! 11/19

We drove to LA for the wedding of our good friend, Nate.

Awwwwww!

While we were waiting for the reception, we tried out our picture-taking skills of the very tall buildings:

KPMG was once a job consideration....

That day, the young men and women put up the lights around the temple grounds for our enjoyment.

That's me in the middle of the cactus, that the lights make to look like a flower.

We actually stayed at the temple apartments for a lot cheaper than close-by hotels. Each night we stayed, we were supposed to do service in the temple. It was nice being right across the street.

The only catch: there was no TV or internet. There was a shelf with a Book of Mormon on it though. When we were done checking out the town Friday night, Scott asked, "Well, do you want to go back to our apartment and read?" ;)

Movember

So a coworker of mine sent out an email about Movember ("During November each year, Movember is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men’s faces, in the US and around the world. With their Mo’s, these men raise vital funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and other cancers that affect men").

I thought it was funny, so sent it to Scott. Little did I know that he would try to celebrate Movember himself!

Luckily it didn't last the whole month:)

He did a great job, especially for his 1st ever bike race! (I was a little mad at my picture-taking skills since I missed part of an important word...)

Scott and I got to go on a cruise to the Western Caribbean!

Lots of fun! Little bit of weight gained....

We did gain weight, but not all the food was good that we tried (hopefully I didn't cause too much of a scene when I spit what I thought was avocado back on my plate).

1st Stop: Cozumel, Mexico

We got a taxi and got a deal to pretty much go around the whole island. Our driver was really nice.

2nd Stop: Belize City

We took a city tour on a wagon pulled by a horse. Everything was super ghetto and I was really hoping the tour guide wasn't taking us anywhere that we wouldn't come back.

Scott wanted to stop and get mangos at a fruit stand, but I was not getting off the wagon and staying in that city longer than I had to! So he let the tour guide know that he had changed his mind and no longer needed mangos.

The tour guide started talking about all the drug-related crime that's going on and how the ratio of men to women is 1 to 8 because all the men get killed. He was really helping my nerves.

Here's a little video to show how crazy it was here. We turned the camera off when the police drove by and were staring us down with their big guns....yes, I was really scared.

When the tour was done, I practically ran back to the boat, thankful to still be alive and breathing!

3rd Stop: Roatan, Honduras (so much better than the day before!!!!!!)

We got to go zip-lining in the jungle! So fun!

Then we swam at the fabulous beach.

We ate at the nice ship-restaurant. It was pretty good.

And you can all thank me for not letting Scott buy this, even though he thought it was pretty cool.

Last Stop: Grand Cayman Islands

So I did another 1/2 marathon a couple weeks ago up in Flagstaff. The run was up in the mountains and really pretty, but it owned me with all the hills! I ran it in 2:09:08....and it's over!!!! Yes!

Oh yeah, that's sexy:)

And as you can see, I was very happy to get that over with!

We had a picnic and did a little hike up Pine Valley Mountain. It was lots cooler than being in St. George!

We got to visit the Clark Family before Taylor left to the MTC on July 13th. It was a good visit.

Taylor had a cello recital Thursday night.

He got to play at the St. John's Episcopal Church as long as he played prelude for one of their Sunday services.

Here's his student. He did a great job!

Friday night we went to the Russian opera that Mom got to be in, 'Boris Godunov.' Scott's 1st opera ever!

Friday we went hiking up Logan Canyon to see the Temple Fork Sawmill.

Colossal Cave

This was pretty fun...we went on a tour of this 'dormant' cave, meaning it didn't look all that cool, but it had some fun history and was fun to explore. Outlaws and Indians were visitors here back in the day:)

The nice tour guide did a great job of taking our pic while we were both looking...

During the Great Depression, the CCC worked here to make trails and put in lights.

So we're trying to do all the things around Tucson because we have a 2/1 discount (for most things). This was one of them.

8 people lived in this for 2 years and grew their own food and everything under controlled environments--pretty wild.

After church, we drove to the temple and the visitor's center. It was neat to learn about the first temple built in California. And the sister missionaries were very outgoing:)

So we enjoyed a full day at Disneyland and CA Adventures (after buying tickets, which turned out to be pretty much from the Disneyland black market! That was exciting:) Our legs were so tired by the end of the day because we were booking it everywhere, but we got most of the rides in:)

They closed Disneyland early for the 4th Pirates of the Caribbean premiere. We got to see where Johnny Depp walked--Scott's a big fan (ok, not really, but he never reads this so I can say whatever I want:)

Our CA Trip

Scott had a training for work the beginning of May in La Mirada, CA, so we made a mini-vacation out of it.
He drove up Sunday morning and I flew in Thursday night.

We went to the Newport Beach Temple after Scott's training on Friday.

We enjoyed the beach...even though the water was freezing!

And then we watched an Angels game...it was a little bit boring, but after they brought their rally monkey out, the Angels won. We're used to spring in AZ, so we froze most of the game since I only had a light jacket and Scott didn't bring one to the game.

Titan Missile Museum

Chris & Tishelle came for a visit the end of April (so I'm a month behind...that's actually REALLY good!) and this is one place we went with them. It was pretty cool!

This was a just-in-case missile during the Cold War. Here's a little blurb about it:

The Titan Missile Museum is the only publicly accessible Titan II missile site in the nation. Tour the underground missile site. See the 3-ton blast doors, the 8-foot thick silo walls, and an actual Titan II missile in the launch duct.

Easter in Mesa!

We went up to the Mesa Pageant for Easter. We were planning on doing a session at the temple, but apparently it closes early when the pageant is going on.

Scott got a basket full of vegetables! His reaction was priceless! He didn't realize at first what was in his basket b/c he just saw mine. I picked my basket up and said, "Look what I got!" Then he picked his up and just started laughing. Don't worry, I shared with him:) I love when I can get him like that!!

San Xavier Mission

This is pretty close to our house, so we thought we should check it out and also so we can say that we've been there...and it's free:)

We only saw one picture/statue of Christ and He was on the cross and bleeding and looked like He was in great pain. I'm so glad we celebrate and rejoice in the living Christ!

Our 5.2 Mile Trail Run!

In the rain! It was freezing!

We made a pretty good team: Scott was ahead of me for about the first 2 1/2 miles, so he helped me run faster because I wanted to finish with him....I made sure to keep him in sight. Then we came to the 'stairs!' It was so steep! I stopped and walked. It made Scott tired too because I was able to catch up to him. From there I helped him keep going. We finished at the same time! Overall, we got 44th and 45th place.

They gave awards the next Saturday, since everyone was leaving. We couldn't believe how ugly they were! It's a mug that looks like a flower pot! Watch out for our white elephant gifts this December:)

After that, we went and saw the movie, 'Tangled.' It was cute:)

We visited a really cool cave.

We're standing in front of the cave, but they wouldn't let us take any pictures inside, so this is all we could get...it was really cool though!

A sloth used to live in the cave way back when. We're really glad of the lack of resemblance:) We were sure to buy a postcard with this picture to send to Kadie, my sister on a mission!

Then we went to a famous Mexican restaurant, 'Mi Nidito' (my little nest). Many famous people have come here to eat, including Bill Clinton. They have the President's plate on the menu of what he ate. We tried it...it was pretty tasty! We didn't get to sit at the President's table, but that's okay:)

Celebrating the 3 Kings Day, which is celebrated in Mexico. We love to eat our Rosca de Reyes! It's yummy Mexican sweet bread.

There's a figurine hidden inside (supposed to be the Baby Jesus)...the person who finds it has to make tamales and host a party on February 2nd.

Scott got it!!! We'll see what he makes me in February:)

Kadie had her organ recital in the Logan Tabernacle. She did a great job! It was beautiful music!

We also got to go to the temple: Grandma, Grandpa, Mom, Kadie, Scott, & Kelsey.

We found a little time to go to Scott's old work for a tennis match:) Poor Scott...with his current job they don't have a really nice break room and competitive coworkers to play against.

We helped shovel snow since it snowed a few inches while we were there. We decided to have a little bit of fun after we finished...about midnight.

Scott finished with his fastest ever record time of 1 hour, 20 minutes, and 33 seconds!

He swam 400 meters.

He biked 12.4 miles (although it was a little bit longer due to biking in and out of the parking lot).

He ran a 5k (3.1 miles).

Good job Scott! We're excited to see some more in the future!

Christmas at the Mesa Temple

It's not Temple Square, but it was fun having a little twist of desert. We did have to wear jackets the night we went:)

Grapefruit in December...that's right! I do miss having a white winter. It's weird listening to my Christmas music and looking out the window and it's almost 80 degrees. Oh well. I do love being able to go outside all year round!

Scott and I participated in a 4-man Scramble Golf Tournament for my work. We went to a driving range the night before so I had a tiny bit of experience--besides that, my 1st time golfing was really fun! Mostly because I didn't have to start from my ball everytime, but we started from whoever's ball was in the best position.

We teamed up with our friends Phil & Loretta from work. It was lots of fun! Phil is pretty good, so he helped our team do well:)

Running Straight for 1 Hour, 46 Minutes, and 59 Seconds

It has come to my attention that if I don't sign up for a race, I have little motivation to run....so, I did another Half-Marathon in Phoenix on November 13th.

I was really nervous before the race! I'm usually not too bad. Maybe it's because I was running all by myself and didn't have siblings or my 75-year-old Grandpa running with me. Maybe Scott will run with me next time....

I was super tired by the end, but I beat my previous times!

I had to run in the snow in Wellsville during our trip. I was happy to get back to my 80 degree weather in Tucson:) Trust me, I would not have been running in snow if I didn't have a race to run!

Kamille & John's Weddin'

We visited Logan, UT to see my friend get married...isn't she cute?!

It was fun to see all of my friends. It was even cooler to see all of them in the temple. It was such a good feeling to know that we made it there (even after having to go through high school;) ) and that we're trying to live to always be able to go to the temple.

And we drove the Jetta up to Cache Vally and sold it to my fam. We decided 3 vehicles wasn't necessary for 2 people.

That car does have lots of memories:

The car alarm going off and I have no idea why or how to make it stop
Running over a squirrel with Kamille as my passenger (it made me think of that one Seinfeld epidsode...)
Being able to weave in and out of other cars cuz it's small
Being pulled over 4 times and only getting a ticket once:)
Scott learning how to drive stick shift
All the plastic falling off the seatbelt holders, under the steering wheel, and anywhere else that had plastic

Well, I hope the Clarks enjoy it:)

Scott's New Adventures of Road Biking

Tucson is known for being very bike-friendly. Scott has always wanted a road bike, and now he finally has one!

Scott is doing a sprint triathlon, December 11th, in Phoenix. It's his first one and he's excited about it. I'm very excited to be watching him instead of participating:)

A Winter Garden?

Well, we're trying:)

We planted strawberries, cilantro, broccoli, carrots, lettuce, spinach, and peas.

The peas are doing great! We're also seeing some carrots and cilantro. The lettuce and spinach never came up...we're blaming it on the ground being too hard, not our lack of a green thumb:) At least we have peas for sure!

Scott passed all 4 of the CPA exams!!!! Congratulations Scott!!!!

We went out to eat at the Cheesecake Factory to celebrate. Fortunately for all of our many fans and blog-followers we didn't take pictures of us stuffing ourselves:) It was good and we enjoyed a shared slice of blueberry cheesecake.

Scott is not yet CPA certified, as he needs to take 2 more classes, but the hard part is now over!!!!

Our Latest Purchase: A Toyota Tacoma

We thought it was time to upgrade from our 1997 and 1998 cars for something with a few less miles...so we found ourselves a truck!

We bought it from an older couple who are still in their prime--only 82 and 86 years old!! Needless to say, they kept very good care of this truck (he even gave us all the receipts of when the oil was changed) and only drove it 18,000 miles, rounding up of course.

Look at that manly man! Now he can haul stuff!

The tires are a bit wimpy, but we'll upgrade when they wear out:)

Scott's Special Day--Sept. 4th

Scott just got done taking his last CPA exam the week before his birthday and wanted a relaxing Big Day. So that's what he got!

And a photo scavenger hunt of 25 things that he needed to get done for his 25th birthday. Some of those included:

Breakfast in Bed--With muffins from Costco(mmmmm...) and some homemade too.
A receipt for 25 cents worth of gas.

1:40--The time Scott was born.

Getting something from a 25 cent machine (except now they're 50 cents)--Now I know that I don't prefer Scott with a blonde mustache:)

Frying bananas.
In front of the Indian Restaurant where Scott wanted to eat.

Having your spouse pick out an outfit from a thrift store--and having to wear it.

Anniversary #2!!!

Scott took his 3rd test of the CPA Thursday morning. We left right when he was done to go on a little temple trip to celebrate our two whole years together.

The Snowflake, AZ Temple...now we've been to all 3 Arizona temples!

THE PETRIFIED FOREST - A quick side attraction full of petrified wood

Since we were up so far, we decided to drive another 4 hours and go to a session in the Albuquerque, NM Temple to be able to add to our temple scrap-book.

After our temple fun, we planned some camping. Who knew the hurricane storm along the coast of Texas would cause huge thunder and lightning storms in NM right where we were camping??? As soon as we had our tent set up, it started to rain...hard.

It was kinda fun to watch the lightning and hear the thunder so close. It was kinda scary at the same time. But then it was raining so hard, that water started coming in the bottom sides of the tent where the rain fly didn't cover. As soon as it stopped raining, we moved all our things in the car so they wouldn't get wet and figured we'd be alright on our blow-up mattress even with a little water in the tent.
Then it started raining again. Water was still comin' in! Then it finally stopped after drenching our tent. Scott sat up and his sleeping bag zipper must have caught on the mattress because it popped! We tried to patch it, but apparently we didn't quite get it because it definitely was deflating.

It started raining again, water was coming in, and we were pretty much lying on the ground. What a miserable night! Finally at 2am, we got up and slept (or tried to) the rest of the night in the car. What fun adventures we have:)

Kelsey's New Job...Finally A Good One!!!

I just got a job offer today and am starting my new job tomorrow!!! I will mainly be a receptionist, but will also have the opportunity to help with the HR department and anything the CFO or others need.

Compared to my last job, there is no comparison!!! The environment is professional, the people are nice, I get paid holidays (and the whole week between Christmas and New Year's off!), and the pay is better. I'm excited, the only negative thing so far is that it takes about 35-40 minutes to get there. It's worth having a good company to work for though!

Gila Valley Temple

The temple was dedicated May 23rd and instead of having regular church that day, the dedication was broadcasted in our chapel. It was pretty neat! We heard from a member of the temple presidency, assistant matron, Pres. Eyring, Pres. Monson, and Elder Holland led the Hosanna shout.

Instead of attending the open house, we decided to just do a session after the dedication. It's a very small temple, but is very pretty. Our temple is still the Mesa temple, but it takes about 2 hours to get to either of them.

This is the last year that Spring Training will take place in Tucson for the Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies, so we made sure to go to a couple games. Allan and Diane even got to come with us when they visited the end of March.

For all you Mariners and baseball fans (and Scott), this was the game that Cliff Lee was pitching and was ejected and suspended for throwing the ball at the batter's head. The benches cleared and it was quite entertaining.

And Scott caught a foul ball!

Kelsey's Birthday: #23

March 7th was a little while ago, but Scott made it such a special birthday, I wanted to post the fun pics we took.

New Job and House!!!

We have have had some exciting events going on here in the past few weeks. After months of looking and waiting for the right job, Kelsey finally got what she was looking for! She will be working at Hutchison Perry & Associates, yeah you know that huge nation-wide law firm. They hired her on as a attorney, which is surprising because she has never even taken a class (that is one impressive interview!). Just kidding, it is actually a collections agency. BUT, she will be managing the customer service side of the business and not those mean, nasty collector people, although she could whip them into shape pretty good too. She is very excited to have a new challenge and something to put her many talents to use.

We are also coming to terms on a house! It is a very exciting moment. Even though there are still many things that could happen to derail the purchase, we are confident the right thing will happen. These are a few amateur videos of the new house. We are excited about it. It is in a very family friendly neighborhood, which will be really nice in the future (not an unofficial announcement!). Feel free to ask any questions about the house.

We have a cannery here in Tucson and we went to begin our food storage efforts. We canned wheat, rice, powdered milk, and pinto beans. We have not used any yet, but that is only because our other food is not good for the next 30 years!

We went to the temple and made sure to be festive in our orange and black:)

Then we carved pumpkins!!!!
Luckily our box of Honey Nut Cheerios had this stencil of the bee on it so Scott could be creative.

Then he found a stencil of President Obama for me to do. I was going to write "Ooobama" on it, but ran out of time and motivation.

So Scott won the cutest pumpkin award and Kelsey won the scariest pumpkin EVER award!!!!

Memphis, TN

September 13-25 ( For Scott anyway)

Scott had a training in Memphis for 2 weeks, so we turned it into a mini vacation. I visited him for a weekend and then spent the rest of my time with the fam instead of being all lonesome.

The Mississippi River

We ate at the famous Rendezvous Restaurant and Corky's Barbeque. Ribs sure are a big deal here.

Beale Street

We did a session in the Memphis, TN temple

We saw the Civil Rights Museum. This motel, where Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated, was made into the museum.

We didn't actually go into Graceland, but we saw Elvis's jets and got our picture by the sign:)

Our Grand Canyon Visit

On our way home from the Tew family reunion in St. George, we took the long way home and saw the South Rim of the Grand Canyon.

Just getting used to cactus and desert everywhere!

We almost got lost in the dust!!!

Our nearest temple in Mesa. About 2 hours away.

The Tucson Toros Baseball Game. They'll be playing St. George this month so we'll be sure to go, we just won't know who to cheer for.

Mt. Lemmon-where it actually feels good to be outside! We'll be doing a lot more exploring, hiking, and biking here, and hopefully camping (as soon as we get a tent and sleeping bags).
